tête-à-tête: 2011-12 VANS Mentorship Program Exhibition

tête-à-tête: 2011-12 VANS Mentorship Program Exhibition
Port Loggia Gallery
August 1 – 18, 2012

Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) is excited to announce, and invite you to, the opening of tête-à-tête: 2011-12 VANS Mentorship Program Exhibition at the Port Loggia Gallery on Wednesday the 1st of August 2012 at 5:30pm.

Pairing the talents of emerging artists Anne Macmillan, William Robinson, and Natalie Boterman, with work from their individual mentors Peter Dykhuis, Robert Bean and Ariella Pahlke, the 2011-12 program exhibition will showcase engaging new works from these interdisciplinary artists. Apprentices this year have created works inspired by histories, places, and the archiving of the mundane.

Since the Mentorship Program’s inception in 2006, VANS has successfully paired emerging artists with established artists to take part in a 10-month mentorship. The program is tailored to meet the individual artistic concerns, concepts, working methods and ambitions of emerging artists in Nova Scotia, it is also shaped by the skills and experiences of the selected mentors. Each year the program culminates in a group exhibition highlighting the work of participating emerging artists and allowing the opportunity to reflect on the experience of mentorship. The exhibition also serves to network emerging artists with the visual arts community in Nova Scotia.

Alongside the exhibition of works on view, there will be a collaborative artist publication, titled tête-à-tête: 2011-12 VANS Mentorship Program. The artist book project was facilitated at the second VANS Mentorship Program Retreat from March 9 – 11, 2012.To view or purchase a copy of the artist book, please visit Blurb.com.

On August 2nd, please join apprentices Anne Macmillan, William Robinson and Natalie Boterman for a noon hour artist talk in the gallery.

Visual Arts Nova Scotia gratefully acknowledges support from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, Jack and Joan Craig, the RBC Foundation, NSCAD University and the Port Loggia Gallery.
