Corridor Gallery
Giving VANS members an opportunity to create an exhibition of their work. Deadline: Ongoing.

Corridor Gallery gives members of Visual Arts Nova Scotia an opportunity to create an exhibition of their work.

Located inside the Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) office at the Halifax Seaport, since 2000, the Corridor Gallery is complimented by a historical legacy of Nova Scotia culture, simple yet modern architectural elements and an array of current cultural activity in the Cultural Federations of Nova Scotia office. The Corridor Gallery is located at 1113 Marginal Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is open Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm.

The Corridor Gallery consists of the two walls in the corridor space of the entrance to our offices with track lighting, the front wall in the main courtyard (dark purple) wall and a smaller (green) wall in the main office area. The measurements are as follows: Corridor walls (two that face each other) measure at 100″ wide x 84″ high and 110″ wide x 84″ high which includes track lighting. The front wall in the main courtyard measures at 72” wide x 72” high and the small wall in the main office measures at 36” wide x 24” high. Exhibiting Corridor Gallery artists are expected to install and dismantle their own exhibit. For images of the gallery, click here.

As an organization that supports the advancement of the visual arts and visual artists in Nova Scotia, we expect all exhibitions proposals to be well-thought out and organized.

Visual Arts Nova Scotia accepts proposals for the Corridor Gallery on an ongoing basis. Artists selected are granted four weeks to exhibit their work, and are required to set-up and strike the exhibit the first and last week of the slotted month. Materials and tools will be provided if necessary.

Art in a Box

Art in a Box showcased the work of artists who reside in Nova Scotia.

Located in the South End of Halifax between the Westin Hotel and the Via Rail Station, Art in a Box is a group of four glass display boxes, each measuring 40″ x 84″ X 17″. Due to its unique location, Art in a Box offered artists an opportunity to display and sell their work in a venue that was seen by many visitors to Nova Scotia. There were three exhibitions throughout the year, and each lasted approximately four months.

To be eligible, participating artists had to be a VANS member who had an e-studio directory or who were enlisted in the VANS media library.

Submissions were accepted approximately one month prior to the opening date of each exhibition. All media was welcome with considerations to the dimensions of the space. An exhibition committee comprised of Visual Arts Nova Scotia members reviewed all submissions.

Currently, not soliciting submission proposals.

Please include in your submission:

  • high quality images of the work you’d like considered (CDR, DVD, slides, transparencies, photographs, digital images), numbered in sequence alongside attached image list and titled in jpeg format. For example, 001 title.jpg, 002 title.jpg, 010 title.jpg;
  • a complete documentation list (number (001), title, media, dimensions, year of completion);
  • an artist statement, including a description of the work and installation set-up for 3D work (Note: all 2D work must have a secure wire backing and all 3D work must include specific installation notes with accompanying apparatus). (100-150 words)

Submissions can be made via e-mail or post. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), if you’d like your submission returned.
