Ceramicist Marc Courtemanche will speak about his work with sculpture and installation, using clay as if it were wood. The trompe l’oeil quality of his works, which incorporate metal parts of hand tools, confuses the eye and foregrounds materiality, process, perception, and representation. Courtemanche completed a BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1999 and MFA at the University of Regina in 2004. Courtemanche has participated in exhibitions at the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery, the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Ottawa Art Gallery, and the Gardiner Museum.

Marc Courtemanche is visiting Nova Scotia to present his work in the exhibition:
Making Otherwise: Craft and Material Fluency in Contemporary Art
9 October through 30 November, 2014
Organized by Carleton University Art Gallery, Heather Anderson, Curator
MSVU Art Gallery, Mount Saint Vincent University, 166 Bedford Hwy, Seton Academic Centre (ground floor), Halifax

Visual Arts Nova Scotia is partnering with art galleries across the province to facilitate an exchange of national and international artists. The En Route Artist Talk Series aims to enhance existing programming and broaden contemporary art conversations.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, which last year invested $157 million to bring the arts to Canadians throughout the country. Nous remercions le Conseil des arts du Canada de son soutien. L’an dernier, le Conseil  a investi 157 millions de dollars pour mettre de l’art dans la vie des Canadiennes et des Canadiens de tout le pays.
