Kate Larson, “will you just sit with me”, mixed media,
from issue 9 of Larson’s zine “no better than apples”.

Larson is visiting Nova Scotia as an artist in residence with the Anchor Archive Zine Library/ Inkstorm/ SadRad Artist in Residence Program.

Kate Larson makes zines, plays music, and lives her life in New Paltz, NY. Her work serves as a tangible inventory of the things she’s been though, the people she knows, and the ways things seem to change over time. Offering soft confessions through autobiographical writing, she accesses and shares herself in songs and zines, attempting to pin down her own identity in a world that is constantly shifting. Kate values the sharing of intimate narratives as a way to learn from each other and learn to value our own lived experiences, and her work often deals with issues pertaining to queer identity, giving and accepting support, and living with and around chronic illness. Lo-fi by choice, she records in her bedroom and self-publishes all her work as a way to keep it all a little bit closer to home before sharing it with the world. She studied creative writing in college and has toured the country in various musical projects. She has taught guitar lessons to 10-year olds and creative nonfiction to 70-year olds, and her highest held hope is that she never ever stops making things.

Visual Arts Nova Scotia is partnering with art galleries across the province to facilitate an exchange of national and international artists. The En Route Artist Talk Series aims to enhance existing programming and broaden contemporary art conversations.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, which last year invested $157 million to bring the arts to Canadians throughout the country. Nous remercions le Conseil des arts du Canada de son soutien. L’an dernier, le Conseil  a investi 157 millions de dollars pour mettre de l’art dans la vie des Canadiennes et des Canadiens de tout le pays.
