Job Opportunity: Executive Director, VANS

Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) is currently accepting applications for the Executive Director of Visual Arts Nova Scotia and Publisher of Visual Arts News.

Start date: June 4, 2018.

Salary: $40,000-45,000 (starting).
Vacation: starts at 3 weeks plus winter holiday closure.
Benefits: Group health and dental plan (50% paid by employer).

Visual Arts Nova Scotia is an artist-run organization incorporated in 1976 to support and promote artists while advocating for the visual arts sector in Nova Scotia. By encouraging artists to pursue their creative and professional practices creating connections to a community of peers and serving as a primary source for information. Responsibilities:
The Executive Director oversees all aspects of the organization’s operations and finance, including development, communications, partnerships, and planning/programming of year-round activities, under the guidance of the Board of Directors. Duties include grant writing and reporting; fundraising; program development and implementation; management of financial records and budgets; hiring and management of a staff and volunteers; regular reporting to the Board of Directors; coordination of board meetings; and general administration.

Qualifications:

Education: Post-secondary degree/diploma plus administrative training or equivalent experience.
Experience: Substantial management/administrative experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector. Knowledge of visual art practices is necessary and an extensive knowledge of Nova Scotia’s visual arts community is desirable.

This position requires a highly motivated, professional and experienced individual with strong oral, written, organizational and managerial skills; experience with financial recording and budgets; keen attention to detail; and significant computer proficiency. The ability to work independently and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment is critical.
