Rosemary Clarke Young

Artist Statement

Though different subjects and mediums are always catching my interest, I am frequently drawn back to painting interiors in oil.  I love the play of light and shadow in rooms; especially the way light or sun on objects can make them appear black, white and every colour in between.  I paint primarily in oil, sometimes watercolour, pastels and occasionally, mixed media.  I sign my work as Lark.

Born in Montreal, Clarke Young studied art there and later at Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Arizona State University in Phoenix.  Since 2008, she has taught art to children (ages 5-16) in local schools through the Halifax Regional Municipality Recreation Program.  She has designed and painted many murals, in both private and public spaces.  While her work has been in galleries and group shows in the Halifax area, the majority of Clarke Young’s painting has been commission work, with artwork held in private collections throughout North America.
