artist statement
Time spent in the woods surrounding my home has me considering the interaction between humans and nature. I observe the ways in which the two come together, in violent collisions, graceful unions, or seemingly untouched indifferences. I am interested in marks that time and circumstance leave behind: cracks on a discarded street sign, barbed wire enveloped by a growing tree. These incidental marks inspire my work and in the process of exploring them, through printmaking and drawing, I discover metaphors for the human experience. From a studying of humans and nature emerges a consideration of human nature.
