artist statement
My intention if to bring Pastel paintings to life for Nova Scotians. Soft pastel applied to Sennelier sanded paper brings vivid colour to life for most seascapes of Nova Scotia. I can only hope that viewers can see and feel what I felt.
selected biography
Rae Smith PSC (Pastel Society of Canada) has been painting with pastels for over 40 years. He has been influenced by artists David Whitzman and Claude Monet. He lives in Sackville, Nova Scotia and spends his summers at his cottage on the ocean in East Chester. Sailing Mahone Bay provides most of his subject matter. He exhibits at Amicus Gallery in Chester, Amber Rose Gallery in Mahone Bay, Art Jules Gallery in Halifax, along with VANS Art-in-a-Box Gallery and Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Sales and Rentals. He also gives Pastel workshops in Halifax and Chester and lectures for art groups in Nova Scotia.
