Kay Stanfield

Artist Statement

Painting, drawing and hand papermaking are my tools for learning and probing into the forces of our world: those we cannot control and those we can or think we can. Currently I am taking apart a series of studio scrolls that have become the catalyst for a new generation of works called Soundings, to be exhibited at the Craig Gallery, Dartmouth.

A recent trip to Turkey is at the root of a renewed interest in the written word, not necessarily as legible words, but as a pattern that colours both our inner and outer realities.
