artist statement

The subjects that I choose to explore in my art are things that nourish me visually and/or emotionally. The body of my work is a balance between a true depiction of the object and a truth to the materials used in making it. Whether the emphasis is on the depiction or on the use of the materials varies from work to work. I enjoy the concentrated observation it takes to make a faithful study. I also get great pleasure from the sensual quality of paint on canvas or marks on paper. My work is primarily presented as a centrally-focused image. Occasionally, though, I will construct objects into a field or grid.
