artist statement

I see my work as an integration of impressionism and realism—the thoughts that go through my mind and onto paper, canvas, board, etc. should be felt by the person viewing the work-if it has life and meaning, I consider the piece worthwhile.

selected biography

Freda Nauss has been interested in art from an early age. Serious endeavours, however, began somewhat later. Freda studied under the (late) Ron Goodwin in acrylics, and drawing and watercolour with Leonard Paul. She now works in acrylic, watercolour, pen and ink–preferring watercolour.

She considers herself self taught and has developed her own style and chooses her own subject matter—landscapes, seascapes, wildlife and birds. Her paintings are clearly recognizable because of the colours she uses, a simple spectrum, borrowed from nature—the light and airy quality stems from her disdain for clutter and a negative space is generally found in her paintings for the eye to rest.

Freda is a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia, theAlliance of Kings Artists (Director) and the Lunenburg Art Gallery.

Freda’s work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, art auctions, etc., throughout the Maritimes and Canada, the United States, and Europe. Her work is currently on display in Nova Scotia at the Apple Bin Gallery in Kentville, the Apple Pie Pottery and Gallery in Middleton, the Paints and Pots Creative Artists in Hall’s Harbour, and the Confederation Centre For The Arts in Charlottetown, PEI. Her work can also be viewed at her studio by appointment.
