Artist Statement

Collages are created  that are visual metaphors for an inner world. The intent is to keep history alive and to challenge objects with a new reality. Works on paper strive to capture moments of exuberance by juxtaposing energized images. Pastels and watercolors increase the palette of the artist and invite the viewer’s comments and interpretation.

Selected Biography
My childhood was experienced in the kaleidoscope of  “The Big Apple.”  An appreciation of symbolism amid organized chaos was enhanced by patterns of electrified colors dancing over moon-bleached streets. Construction and de-construction of the cityscape’s architecture heightened my artistic sensibilities to the collision of history and modernity. Attentiveness to detail evoked minimalist imagery in the grandeur of the colossus. The skyscraper’s violet shadows, the hot-dog vendor’s sizzling red wagons, the endless black umbrellas folding into yellow taxi-cabs– all painted a canvas from which was taken further inspiration.

When re-located to the majestic beauty and solitude of rural Cape Breton I was able to express myself with mixed media works that celebrated a poetic spirit nourished by urban roots. Wild irises, wavelets, and wind swept grasses welcome visitors to my secluded atelier.
