Dorothy Mosher

Artist Statement

I love to travel around Nova Scotia to the many secluded coves and fishing villages and always find inspiring scenes to paint. I usually take watercolours with me as they are a little easier to pack. The Hubbards area and also St. Margaret's Bay are two favorite locations.

Biography

Dorothy was born in Saint John, N.B. and has lived in Halifax for over 40 years. She began painting in oils with Liz Wilcox as instructor. She also took instruction from local artists John Cook and Jeannie Hancock.

After painting exclusively in oils for 15 years, she studied watercolour with the late Robert Percival. He encouraged the loose style of pure watercolour that she uses today.

Dorothy has taken several lessons from Charles Reid during excursions to Prague, Austria and France.

Through the last 30 years she has had solo exhibitions at the Morrison Gallery in Saint John, the Duke of Argyle, the Emberly Gallery and the David Ariss Gallery all in Halifax. Also she exhibited at the Swoon Gallery in Hammonds Plains.

Dorothy has taught workshops in both oil and watercolour to the Atlantic Artists Group and the Needham Group.

She continues to paint plein air when the weather permits and also in her studio.
