artist statement

My paintings are greatly influenced by the elusive and mystical qualities of light and its affects. Contrast in values as well as various line formations are key compositional considerations. Working en plein air allows me to capture the subtleties of colour and essence of my subject. This enables me to respond emotionally to my surroundings. While on location I compose written reflections that depict my thoughts and feelings about my subject matter. Both my oil paintings and writings help me explore moments in time.
