Artist Statement

My work is inspired by the spectacular scenery which surrounds me here at my home at the northern-eastern tip of Cape Breton Island.  My paintings reflect my love of colour, texture, and improvisation  and I use varying techniques to create an expression of my idea or subject, inviting the viewer’s imagination and/or interpretation.

Selected Biography

Cape Breton artist Celeste Friesen has exhibited her award-winning work in numerous solo and group shows and galleries both in Cape Breton, NS and in the Washington, DC area. Her work is collected across Canada and the United States.

She currently exhibits regularly across Cape Breton, and her work can be seen at the following galleries: the Inverness County Centre for the Arts in Inverness; Victoria County Creates in Baddeck; Coloratura Fine Art Gallery in Indian Brook; Cape Breton Center for Craft and Design in Sydney; Arts North Gifts in Cape North; Salty Roses in Ingonish; and the Markland Resort in Dingwall.

Her studio is in South Harbour, Cape Breton.

About Celeste

Cape Breton artist Celeste Friesen has exhibited her award-winning paintings throughout Cape Breton, NS and in the Washington, DC area. Her work can now be found in many galleries across Cape Breton, and in private collections across Canada and the United States. Celeste's works are in acrylic and mixed media, and present a variety of techniques, materials, and improvisations. She loves to explore colours, shapes and textures in a range of expressionistic/abstract styles. Celeste holds an MA and music degrees and is originally from Winnipeg, MB. After retiring from a career in the corporate world and living in various parts of Canada and the USA, she now resides in north-eastern Cape Breton where the wild and magnificent scenery there form much of the inspiration for her work.
