Photographer Kas Stone of Dublin Shore, NS exhibits a series of works investigating our emotional attachment to the landscape, on view in the corridor gallery October 2 – 30 as part of Photopolis – The Halifax Festival of Photography. In describing the exhibition, Stone explains:

Sense of Place is an evocative notion with many layers of meaning. At the most basic level it refers to the geographical features that make a place unique – its location and topography, climate, natural ecosystems, and human cultural environment. More importantly, it captures a person’s emotional attachment to a place – feelings of belonging, rootedness, even identity.

As a landscape photographer, and as a Maritimer recently ‘back home’ after nearly twenty years stranded in Toronto, I have been profoundly affected by the places in my life.

Kas Stone is a photographic artist based in Dublin Shore on Nova Scotia’s southwest coast, where she runs a small gallery and offers workshops in photography and digital imaging. Her portfolio includes two books published by The Boston Mills Press and photographs in nature and outdoor lifestyle magazines. She was the profiled photographer with an eleven-page feature in the Winter 2010 edition of Outdoor Photography Canada. Her prints have been shown in galleries in Ontario and Nova Scotia, and won awards at national and international competitions. Among her commercial clients are tourism and environmental associations, corporate offices, retail stores, and home décor manufacturers. She is also active in the photographic community as a presenter, workshop leader and competition judge. Learn more at www.kasstone.ca.
