Call for Applications: 2012-13 VANS Mentorship Program

Visual Arts Nova Scotia (VANS) releases the 7th annual call for applications for the VANS Mentorship Program.

The VANS Mentorship Program pairs established artists with emerging artists (not necessarily young artists but those in the early stages of their artistic career) to take part in a ten-month long mentorship from October to July. Mentors and apprentices meet in pairs monthly, and three times as a group. The mentors may be asked to provide support to the apprentices in areas such as: proposal development; grant writing; artist statement development; technical advice; critiques; thematic development; networking; budgeting etc.

Over the last 6 years, the VANS Mentorship program has tailored to meet individual artistic concerns, concepts and working methods for emerging artists such as: Anne MacMillan, Barbara Schmeisser, William Robinson, Chantal Tardiff, Scott Saunders, Ruth Marsh and more. These ambitious artists worked with mentors who shaped each program with their individual experience. Mentors participating in the program have included: Peter Dykhuis, Susan Wood, Glynis Humphrey, Robert Bean, Cathy Busby, Ilan Sandler and others. The benefits and impact of the program rely on participants’ openness, enthusiasm and in particular their willingness to reflect and focus on their practice.
